Beautiful work Channa. It reminds me of the later work of Loyd Reese a great Australian landscape painter. He could barely see towards the end of his life and his work became more. This has a similar quality of power.

Artist's Description

This small pastel is an abstracted perspective of Taos Pueblo, turning the clock back to before thre was electricity and modernizations.. I visited the pueblo first when I was 16. I was n Albuquerque for the summer as part of a community work project to build a community center in the poorer Hispanic neighborhood.. The group went to Taos for a summer fiest with dances. I was so happy to be there;I put my feet into the water and all ofthe women arose at once and began shouting at me. I had not known the water was considered sacred.. I was aghast at my error. Twenty two years later I revisited, this time by invitation, to perform the spiritual Toltec dance for the lower school children. The teachers were moved to tears, the children full of smiles, and I felt I had made balance with my initial encounter with Taos.

Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out . Most of what I created was done in places closely aligned to native and mestizo culture in the...
