This is a rough copy of an early Matisse painting, dione when he spent timne with his wife by the ocean in the south of France. He did a number of his well known nude on a divan work then, but this particular image is the one that moved me for its lovely use of turquoise and soft yellows, with red and black accents. I am uploading this so that others might kniow this image.
I am self taught. I have painted fulltime since 2001 , beginning in watercolor. Many images of the first years were done with my eyes closed. This was about being called, or engaged ,by the sense perception that is mindless, free of image . It required listening to this wordless subtle sense and put marks down on the paper without second guessing. Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out .
