Artist's Description
This oil on canvas painting was step 2 to arrive at what became a different painting. I began with a copy of a vase with flowers of Cezanne I copied to learn from him. In every way it did not capture what I loved. Two years later I picked it up and decided to just paint over it for fun. This is the result.As my style is looser, I continued to paint and another work is the result. Now I can see this for what it is and will repaint it, also to have a better quality print image. I wanted to translate Cezanne into a modern pop style using vivid color with the aubergine floral shapes as the focus with random whimsy to draw the eye around the canvas. It would be an enjoyable striking print for any public or well trafficked area.
About Studio Tolere
I am self taught. I have painted fulltime since 2001 , beginning in watercolor. Many images of the first years were done with my eyes closed. This was about being called, or engaged ,by the sense perception that is mindless, free of image . It required listening to this wordless subtle sense and put marks down on the paper without second guessing. Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out .
