This is a small watercolor. It will print well on a good watercolor paper for the same effect as the original.It was painted wet on wet in a quick spontaneous manner.
This was done quickly with a Zen like approach. It followed a period of studying roses and drawing them in different ways, in a blue vase. Then one day I closed my eyes and painted this. It seemed unfinished so I put it aside. When I took it out a year later I sawe it was complete. The completion was in the open spaces,
something often as artists we miss when our minds are filled with the subject itself. That is how it is an expression of Zen mind.
About Studio Tolere
I am self taught. I have painted fulltime since 2001 , beginning in watercolor. Many images of the first years were done with my eyes closed. This was about being called, or engaged ,by the sense perception that is mindless, free of image . It required listening to this wordless subtle sense and put marks down on the paper without second guessing. Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out .
