This is a 20 x 24 inch painting in oil, born of two influences.The first is my love of the animal paintings of Franz Marc, key member of the Blue Riders Art Group in Germany in the early 20th century. Marc died in WW! at age 26 yet still left behind a significant body of great art.
The second is the beauty of the hills and expansive fields of Jalisco on the bus route from Guadalajara to Puerta Vallarta, a trip I did so many times I came to know each piece of the landscape on the 5 hour trip.
I am self taught. I have painted fulltime since 2001 , beginning in watercolor. Many images of the first years were done with my eyes closed. This was about being called, or engaged ,by the sense perception that is mindless, free of image . It required listening to this wordless subtle sense and put marks down on the paper without second guessing. Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out .
