Artist's Description

This painting was influenced by the love of color found in modern Mexican art, the importance of different animals expressed in different Mexican tribal art forms, my love of the animal paintings of Franz Marc and looser work and use of coloring found in the work of certain artists of the German Blue Rider Movement, including Paul Klee and Albert Bloch as well.It is the second stage of a work I continued to work on but now like it at this stage and feel it stands on its own. The first stage, Animalia 1 was made into a large print with handpainting added, and sold to a collector.

I am self taught. I have painted fulltime since 2001 , beginning in watercolor. Many images of the first years were done with my eyes closed. This was about being called, or engaged ,by the sense perception that is mindless, free of image . It required listening to this wordless subtle sense and put marks down on the paper without second guessing. Each year until recently I created a series of work that were shown and selected pieces chosen for a print series. I now work mainly in pastel and oil but not exclusively. I see these series as being the building blocks in this process of becoming an artist from the inside out .
