Description
The journey of inner transformation undertaken as a group has been a part of different earth based native cultures for millenia, be it the AUstralian walkabout or the Mexican Huichol tribe's annual 300 kilometer journey from the mountains to the desert to collect peyote. This is preceded by three months of different kinds of abstinence, enabling the participants to be open to a peak spiritual encounter and transformation after arriving in the peyote desert lands , encountering the beloved cactus, and undergoing the ceremony of ingesting it. It is the journey out of the material into the etheric, when the mind opens beyond itself and the sense of an interconnected cosmos become a reality one is deeply part of. Other native cultures have their particular context aas a group for this kind of inner transformation, led by the elder, the shaman, the revered Grandmother or Grandfather, and these arduous rituals still continue in our time.I have been fortunate to encounter and be part of this journey in a native context. This was painted in 2002, in Mexico. The original is opposite this. It is a white background and has a distinctly etheric feel. The colors were shifted by happenstance in Adobe one day to these. I have posted this version because I feel these colors give the real sense of the land and the night when this transformational journey occurs
