Description

This was painted in 2002 and part of the series done with my eyes closed.
I lived where the largest lake in Mexico was drying up from being overly drawn offof and not fed from the north.During this time I felt immersed in the dying process and worked in intangible ways for life to come back.Although there was water it did not feel wet,perhaps from the excess of toxic material that had been dumped into it from industry. This lake has been one of the principal places of giving offerings by the Huichol tribe, and being situated between mountains had a deep spiritual quality. One day, when all seemed lost, the seeming miracuous occurred. Profuse rainfall and a dam opening simultaneously filled the lake overnight . A year later it had filled so much the park in front of the lake in one village was flooded. This painting has been the most universally related with of my work and shown in a number of venues.It appeared on the cover of a monthly magazine addressing water renewal for a large lake in Mexico. It prints well large or small , on canvas or paper. I prefer glossy canvas, but matte is also good.
